Our fight continues for a fair budget that includes a millionaire’s tax to be passed this budget season. On June 13th join us for a Rally for a budget that NJ Deserves at the Statehouse in Trenton, NJ at 12 Noon.
If the legislature does not pass a budget by June 30th, the State is at risk of a shutdown for the third year in a row. Right now, there are two visions of what happens in this year’s state budget. There is Governor Murphy’s proposed budget that makes investments in public education and services, and funds public worker pension and our state employee contract while asking millionaires to pay their fair share in taxes. Then there is Sweeney’s “Path to Progress” report that calls for ending the current public worker pension system for state, county, and municipal government employees and shifting billions of dollars of healthcare costs on to workers— all while protecting billions of dollars of tax cuts for the super wealthy and corporations.
Take action today! Every member and their households are making calls to their NJ legislators through the hotline at 855-620-8460. Call this number three times, put in your zip code each time and select your State Senator then call your two members of the Assembly, the message is the same each time. Tell them “My name is _____ and I live in ____. Support Governor Murphy’s state budget with a millionaire’s tax and oppose yet another attack of public employee healthcare, pensions, and collective bargaining through Steve Sweeney’s ‘Path to Poverty’ legislation.”
