Local 1040 Gives Back by Giving Back

On August 22, Local 1040 brought together children and families for a  “Labor of Love” Day — a day of family fun and health awareness in Trenton, N.J. Organized by the Local’s Community Services Committee, Women’s Committee, Education Committee and Equity Committee, this impactful event treated families to food and entertainment and featured a volunteer blood drive hosted with the Community Blood Council of New Jersey, Inc.

Due to the generosity of community residents and CWA members and staff, Local 1040 was able to donate more than 43 pints of life-saving blood at the drive.  These donations will help meet the blood needs of many patients in the nearly 30 area hospitals served by the Community Blood Council of New Jersey, Inc. including: Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, St. Francis Medical Center, Capital Health Systems and Cooper University Hospital.

Local 1000 Verizon Workers, Retirees Rally for a Fair Contract in Livingston

On August 27, Local 1000 members and retirees held informational picketing outside of Verizon call center in Livingston. More than 50 members, retirees joined by their family members attended to support their bargaining team and demand a fair contract. Verizon has been demanding major concessions from workers, including cuts to retiree pension and health benefits. Retirees are fighting back, sending letters to Verizon CEO Lowell McAdam letting Verizon know that they have built this company and

Local 1014 & Local 1084: Uniting in Camden for Fair Contracts

On August 12th, in a display of power and solidarity members of Local 1014 and 1084 rallied to send a clear message to management: City workers and Camden County Board of Social Services workers are united and powerful and demand contracts that improve standards for hundred of workers in Camden.

CWA Next Generation Tackles Student Debt

On August 12 and 13, CWA Next Generation, in partnership with Jobs with Justice, tackled student loan debt head on by organizing five student debt clinics across New York and New Jersey. The clinics were organized to teach CWA members how to significantly lower or even eliminate their student loan payments through federal income-driven repayment plans and the Public Service Loan Forgiveness program.
