CWA ENDORSES PHIL MURPHY FOR GOVERNOR
Murphy’s Progressive Vision For NJ’s Working Families Makes Him Best Candidate
(NEWARK, NEW JERSEY) – Today, the Communications Workers of America (CWA) enthusiastically endorsed Phil Murphy for Governor in the Democratic Primary. According to CWA Locals and Members, Murphy is the best candidate – because he shares their progressive values and fights for New Jersey’s middle-class and working families.
“Phil Murphy is committed to making our state’s political and economic systems once again responsive to the needs of middle-class and working families,” said CWA NJ State Director Hetty Rosenstein. “As Ambassador to Germany, he saw first-hand the importance of strong unions. As such, we’re heartened by Phil Murphy’s strong commitment to collective bargaining and fully-funded pensions. New Jersey deserves a governor with the stature and demeanor befitting the office, and who knows what it means to keep his promises.”
“After eight years of New Jersey going backwards and staring down the barrel of President Trump, we need leaders who will look out for working families now more than ever,” said Dennis Trainor, CWA District 1 Vice-President. “Phil Murphy is not beholden to the political bosses, and he’ll make New Jersey a leader in the fight for economic and social justice. Most of all, we share Phil Murphy’s progressive agenda– when it comes to jobs, services, fully-funded pensions and a healthy respect for all this state’s families.”
“This campaign is about bringing strong, progressive leadership to rebuild New Jersey’s battered middle class with an economy that works for all of us,” said Murphy. “CWA has been at the forefront in the fight for the progressive values we share, from better wages and workplace protections to a government that lives up to its promises and works for the people. We have built a broad coalition committed to reversing the damage Chris Christie has done and I am honored to have CWA join our fight for a fair and just New Jersey.”
CWA is proud to stand alongside Phil Murphy in the fight to create jobs and an economy that works for everyone. CWA and Murphy are both committed to getting New Jersey back on track with a progressive, forward-thinking vision that builds and strengthens the middle-class. That’s why Phil Murphy earned the support of CWA members from the bottom up. CWA Locals unanimously supported Phil Murphy via a fair, transparent, democratic process and substantive vetting by elected Local Presidents, the chairs of Legislative Political Action Teams and then a review by the District 1 Vice President. CWA members appreciated how Phil Murphy is organizing his vision around a working families agenda.
The Communications Workers of America (AFL-CIO) represents both private sector and public workers. CWA represents more than 70,000 working families in New Jersey, including over 40,000 state workers, 15,000 county and municipal workers, and thousands of workers in the telecommunications, airlines, healthcare and direct care industries.
