CWA Launches Television Ads Opposing Christie's Plan to Hand Public Jobs to Political Cronies
Following Governor Chris Christie's proposal to gut protections against discrimination in hiring and promotions of public employees, CWA has launched a series of television ads designed to inform the public about how the plan would lead to even more corruption in New Jersey, and hand even more power over to Trenton politicians.
In the New York media markets in North Jersey, the ad can be seen on CNBC, CNN, MSNBC, Fox News, TNT, USA, Weather Channel, and News 12. In the Philadelphia markets in South Jersey, the ad will run on CNBC, CNN, ESPN, FXNC, Golf, MSNBC, Weather Channel, and USA.
The ads are in response to one of Governor Christie's 33 proposals to destroy workers rights in public employment in New Jersey. One of the proposals would allow towns and municipalities to opt out of the Civil Service system--the rules in place that promote fairness in public employment. Without these rules, there is nothing stopping politicians from removing career public employees and replacing them with their campaign contributors and cronies, which would politicize every public sector job and open the floodgates to even more corruption in New Jersey.
And if there was any thought that Christie would at least make the opt outs a level playing field, forget about that: if a municipality votes to opt out of Civil Service, it is 10 years before another vote can take place. But if that municipality votes not to opt out of Civil Service, another vote can take place just two years later.
CWA is planning to fight Christie's disastrous proposals using every resource available. To get involved protecting your job, come to the Citizen's Rally on May 22, and then check back often to find out what members are doing to stay involved.
